During five years we worked quietly, but steadily, on this box together with the Meertens Instituut (a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, studying the diversity inlanguage and culture in the Netherlands). This stunning set now contains 9 cd’s, 1 dvd plus a 440 page book with 163 traditional Dutch folk songs from the collection of Ate Doornbosch. Syria is a country where sufis still play an important role in the religious everyday life. Mansour learned the art of ‘inshad’ (a lyrical form of Sufi poetry) from his grandfather. He soon acquired an excellent reputation in the Arab world because his beautiful and original combination of vocals and poetry. He is accompanied on instruments like ney, oud (luth) and qanun (cither).
